11/9/2007 DARWEN 0 CHADDERTON 1
Darwen lost their 100% home league record tonight. With only a
disputed penalty separating the sides, the result enabled Chadderton
to maintain their 100% start to the season.
The away side came close to opening the scoring on twelve minutes,
when a corner reached Davies on the edge of the area. His attempt
went close by the post. Fifteen minutes later, a hopeful Chadderton
clearance was latched onto by Ashton. He hoisted a pass over Joe
Darwin to Carl Taylor, whose shot was blocked near the line by Lee
Stott.
Stott was involved in Darwen’s best move of the half. He gathered a
free kick from the centre circle, then raced to the edge of the
Chadderton area, then hit a volley which just cleared the bar.
Three minutes later, Chadderton were awarded a penalty by referee
Dalal for pushing, and Carl Taylor made no mistake from the spot.
Six minutes later, Darwen came close to levelling the score as Lee
Stott beat the offside trap and ran towards goal. As Swanson came
out to narrow the angle, he passed to Stuart Telfer, but Telfer
mistimed the shot, enabling the Chadderton keeper to clear. Just
before the break, Matt Anderton got his head to a cross, but not
with sufficient power to beat Swanson.
Half Time: Darwen 0 Chadderton 1
Fifteen minutes into the second half, a strong Neil Almond shot
deflected off a Chadderton boot for a corner. Ten minutes later,
Matt Anderton put a bullet header from a corner just wide. Swanson
had to be alert a few minutes later to push a Stuart Telfer effort
to safety.
Just before the final whistle, Chadderton had the ball in the net
again, but the goal was ruled offside.
