Report
League leaders F.C United proved
much too strong for Darwen Reserves. Their quick incisive play
coupled with some good finishing and general all round fitness
showed the way football should be played and gave Darwen a good
lesson. It was Darwen however who started quickly putting some
threatening moves together and forcing a couple of early corners.
On fifteen minutes all that meant nothing as a swift F.C.United
counter attack resulted in a through ball catching the Darwen
defence square and resulting in a great finish past Ian Harle.
F.C.United piled the pressure on and another goal soon appeared as
they played a one two through the Darwen defence and the right
winger finished low to Harle’s left. Darwen had little response and
the third goal said everything about the two teams confidence
levels. The Left Winger for F.C.United cut inside and jinked past
four people before firing low past Harle from outside of the area.
The second half restarted and
surprisingly for fifteen minutes Darwen looked the better team,
tackles were flying in and a couple of chances were spurned as they
looked to regain some pride. However in a repeat of the first half
F.C.United grabbed their first chance and scored after some scrappy
play from Darwen, the ball looping up after striking Harle in the
chest. The fifth goal was soon to arrive and it came from a right
wing cross tapped home from the striker. Then Darwen again came
back in the game and Wale latched onto a flick from Daniel Aspin to
fire home low and get back some pride. It was not to be however as
F.C.United scored a thunderous sixth from the edge of the box.
A defeat is a defeat but Darwen
can have some pride as this was easily the toughest looking fixture
of the season. Hopefully more points can be gleaned from easier
matches to come.
