Thomas Marshall.

Thomas was born in Withnell Lancashire on the 12th September
1858, He had been a professional sprinter before joining the
Salmoners in 1878 aged 20. He was a member of the FA cup semi-final
team that lost to eventual winners The Old Carthusians 4-1 in
1881.It was his performances in the three match FA cup quarter final
tie against The Old Etonians in 1879 that would earn him a England
Call-up, He played for England against Wales at Alexandra meadows
Blackburn on the 26th February 1881 which England lost 0-1, Thomas
also represented Lancashire and "The North" against the South
several times. By the time Darwen were elected to the Football
League in 1891 Thomas had left The Salmoners to join Bolton
Wanderers.
