Lancashire Junior Cup and Challenge Shield
Lancashire Junior cup.
The Junior Cup competition was formed in 1885, this was
the year professionalism was legalised in football, it gave a chance for the
smaller clubs of the Lancashire Association to win a competition, from 1885
the larger Football clubs would contest the Lancashire senior cup. Bell's Temperance
FC (now a defunct club) were the first winners of the cup. Darwen won the cup
in 1933 and 1973 they were runners-up in 1929, 1930 and 1949. To view Cup click

Lancashire Challenge Shield.
The Shield was first played for in 1906, its object was
to relieve the Junior cup competition from too big an entry. A total of 39 clubs
competed for the shield in its first year, the first winners being Hindley Central
FC. The gate receipts for the final were £17. 10s. 10d. By 1914 the number of
entrants had risen to over 100 Darwen won the Shield in 1932/33 for the only
